Silvermoon and Cloud Computing
Silvermoon has been working closely with IBM since early 2010 on Cloud Computing as we feel this is a major future direction for computing in general and insurance in particular. It is a game-changer.
IBM's Cloud Computing service delivers a select set of standardized business process, application and infrastructure services on a flexible price "per use" basis. It offers the benefit of capital preservation through standardization in the Cloud, automation, flexibility and reduced time to deploy, i.e. a major ramp up in the speed to take new/revised Products to market.
Gartner predicts that Cloud Computing will grow from $59bn now to $149bn in 2014. Companies will invest $112bn over next 5 years in Cloud. The Cloud offering is causing a major shift from technology use to value consumption. You only pay for what is needed and used.
There are inevitable concerns about data privacy and security in the Cloud but these can and will be addressed.
Silvermoon has been working with IBM in the US and EU to address these challenges. We have the skills and experience, together with our business partners to do this. We successfully completed a Cloud Pilot in June 2010 for an existing customer, moving our LUNOS-based Solution securely into the IBM Cloud with the customer's insurance products. We were also able to prove integration between the IBM Cloud and AWS (Amazon Web Services).
Silvermoon was provided access to IBM's Global Pilot environment (less than 10 companies were invited) for IBM Smart Business Development and Test on the IBM Cloud, based in the USA. We are one of 20 original ISV PAC members (selected from 60 candidates) to help IBM launch a new Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering - a major cross-division offering of IBM for 2011.
Silvermoon is an early adopter of the IBM Cloud PaaS offering. We are participating in the IBM PaaS early adopter beta and sharing deployment experiences (one of the six early adopters by invitation). We are continuing to fine tune our Solution on the IBM PaaS offering, with the aim to launch this IAA capability on PaaS during 2011.
An example of a Cloud Computing Architecture:
Silvermoon has assisted Insurance Industry clients in creating viable Cloud strategies and road maps for implementation. We understand the complexities and are actively involved in assisting clients with planning and execution of projects to move certain workloads to Cloud, especially Development and Test as well as Desktop in the Cloud.
